I sent out a note via my “other job” this week, saying that I was trimming my time down and would no longer be working under multiple businesses. I was a last knot that needed to be tied in our transition and allowed me to feel the freedom of developing my world as I desired.
The response from, well “you”, was wondrous.
Not just the notes of “good luck” and “congratulations” but the heartfelt emails that arrived as a form of thank you’s .
Hearing so many other stories of families who are stuck in a life that they thought they wanted, but eventually realised wasn’t by their design.
It empowers me to know that while my family is taking this leap, it is encouraging others to start a journey of their own dreams. This was never the purpose of the blog, or the adventure, but I am thrilled that some of you have found little nuggets of thought to inspire you somehow.
See I truly do believe that sometimes we get so caught up in spending our time to support the “things” we thought we wanted that we forget to do the” things” we love. We feed our time and money into keeping up with other people’s expectations, and forget to nurture the relationships we have chosen, forget to explore our dreams and happiness. There are so many ways to live a wonderful life, and it saddens me to see so many people living a life of someone else`s design.
The comments of “I wish I could do something like this” are silly… of course you can! Don`t take my path… not everyone wants rural island living (and I will let you know in a few more months if we actually do) but find your path, find your dream! The specific pieces of your families’ puzzle that make a wonderful life, a life that you CHOSE, vs one you fell into.
I guess in the end, it really is figuring out what will make you happy, in the simplest form. All the things that are stressing you out and stopping you from actually living, should be re-evaluated so you have more time and opportunity to enjoy life.
It is so cliché, but life IS short, especially this youthful time with our children. I have heard many a grandmother say “this is the best time in your life”. How we will forever look back on these years with our kids and yearn for the chaos and adventure, wish we had spent more time with them, wish we hadn’t worked so much.
So for all of you `on the fence` and starting to feel that seedling of a dream root itself in your belly… just do it!
Please, start. When we look back a year ago, when I first started to lay out my vision of a great life, I never considered it would be possible. But by just continuing to move forward, my path led me here. Here, to exactly where I wanted to be.
One step, one little conversation can change your world. Chill a bottle of wine, get the kids fed early and sit down with your partner and start a dream together. Don`t succumb to be unhappy for the next 20 years until you are “rid” of the kids and can start living YOUR life….
This is your life, and the kids will be a hell of a lot happier if you are!
Open the wine, and open the conversation!
And, keep me posted… I love living your stories as well!
